Electrical Grid Design Review & Remediation
An islanded electrical grid for an ammonia plant experienced issues that would cause black out events, disrupting operation and halting production, causing millions in losses. The grid’s reliability has large scale implications as there is a nitrate plant drawing power directly from the ammonia plant. When power goes out in the ammonia plant, the power for the connected nitrate plant also goes out. Sustech was engaged to review for ways to improve the grid’s reliability. Sustech provided power studies through DlgSILENT Power Factory, as well as an obsolescence study of current equipment, to assist in long-range planning of replacements.
Electrical Pre-Feasibility Work for Addition of Solar Power Station to Mine
To address emission concerns, a client intended to install a solar farm at an adjacent area offsite to their existing mining operation. In conjunction with this, the client also planned to expand the plant, which would result in layout modifications and would eventually block straight line access to the solar farm from the mine. Sustech was tasked to provide a preliminary concept and notional costing for the cable routing from the mine site to the solar farm, including calculations for different scenarios (indirect aboveground, direct underground, cable types etc.).
